Need a few healthy eating tips to suit your lifestyle?

One of the biggest excuses for not eating healthy is the lack of time. Here are a few healthy eating tips to get you started on the road to a healthier way of life.

Of course, a shortage of time isn't the only excuse...some people argue that their diet is just fine, meanwhile lacking the knowledge of what a balanced diet is all about. Others will say that they travel a lot, are students, live alone or work long hours or, better yet, "I don't like diet foods".
No excuses
This may sound a little strong, but food can be just as much of an addiction as cigarettes. Think about a person that smokes.

Many people say that they want to quit smoking. They may try for a day or two but they go straight back to their habit making excuses like "I like smoking" or "it relaxes me". The reality is that it’s the addiction talking.

It takes will power, motivation and perseverance. Yes, it’s hard! If it was easy, everyone would do it. The up side is that once you've overcome the hurdle and made healthy eating a habit, it too is a difficult habit to break.

You need to make a decision - much like deciding to go to Alcoholics Anonymous - and then you need to act. Decide that you're going to change your eating habits, then work on 'how'.

Grocery list

The very first advice we can give you is to PLAN. Plan your meals for the next two weeks. Take the food groups and portion sizes into account. Make note of each meal and snack and follow that up with writing a shopping list. If you normally buy full fat milk, make a point of writing 'low fat milk' or 'no fat milk' on your list to reinforce your decision.

When you go shopping, make sure to stick to your list. Don't go to the store when you're hungry, are feeling emotional or are in a hurry - this will lead to you slipping into your old habits.

Now that we've got you started, have a look at the pages that follow. They are full of helpful advice for just about every lifestyle, or stage of life.
